Dr Edona Hyla is a Research Fellow within the School of Engineering at the University of Birmingham.
Dr Victor Manuel Villapun Puzas is a Research Fellow within the School of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. His research aims to push forwards the boundaries of material science to provide novel therapies capable of tackling medical device failure rates, provide personalised solutions and limit antimicrobial resistance development in a streamlined pipeline.
He obtained a PhD from Northumbria University to challenge hospital acquired infections through novel metallic glass composites and, for the last seven years, he has been part of the Centre for Custom Medical Devices. During this time, he has developed an extensive array of abilities encompassing metal Additive Manufacturing, surface functionalisation, alloy development, AI, and in vitro models for eukaryotic and prokaryotic cell interactions at phenotypic and genetic levels. Now part of FractureFix, he will engage with national and international stakeholders to develop, optimise and test minimally invasive approaches bridging the current care gap.
